Welcome to GracePointe NOVA!

Who We Are

GracePointe Baptist Church is a warm, Christ-centered Independent Baptist church serving the diverse and fast-paced communities of Northern Virginia. NOVA is filled with people who need hope, truth, and a place to belong—and our desire is to be that place. We exist to point people to the life-changing grace of Jesus Christ through the preaching of God’s Word and the love of God’s people.

Our Heart for Northern Virginia

NOVA is diverse, densely populated, and constantly moving. Amid the busyness, many individuals and families are searching for stability, direction, and community. GracePointe is committed to offering a church home where people can grow spiritually, develop meaningful relationships, and find biblical answers for daily life.

At the heart of our mission is the commandment to love one another as Christ loves us, creating an atmosphere that is both welcoming and compassionate. We strive to cultivate a vibrant community that reflects God’s grace and shines His truth in our region.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple:
To glorify Christ by preaching the Gospel, teaching the Word of God, and building strong families who grow in their walk with the Lord.

Everything we do—from worship to outreach to discipleship—is rooted in a commitment to the King James Bible and a desire to help people take their next spiritual step.

Our Pastor
Pastor John H. Mix

Pastor John Mix was born and raised in a small farming community in central Illinois, the fifth child of Robert and Valda Mix. Though active in church throughout his youth, he did not come to know Christ personally until adulthood. After attending Illinois Valley Community College and touring with a musical group, he met and married his wife, Sara, in 1989. They have four sons—Joshua, Samuel, Levi, and Benjamin—and one grandchild. Two of their sons, Levi and Benjamin, are preparing for ministry.

On October 9, 1990, after being invited to First Baptist Church of Dunlap, Pastor Mix heard the Gospel clearly for the first time and trusted Christ as his Savior. He and Sara were discipled there and began serving in a wide range of ministries, from children’s classes and music to soul winning and teaching. God used those years of training to prepare them for full-time ministry.

In 1997, Pastor Mix surrendered to God’s call to ministry. Over the years he has served as a Youth Pastor, Music and Children’s Minister, Associate Pastor, and church planter. His ministries have included leading growing youth departments, expanding music programs, supporting missions, launching new ministries, training lay leaders, and helping revitalize struggling churches.

In 2012, Pastor Mix became the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Kingstowne in the Washington, D.C. area. Under his leadership, the church has grown from a small, declining congregation to a thriving ministry reaching 180–200 in weekly attendance, sending out missionaries, planting churches, and launching a Bible Institute.

Now, after more than a decade of fruitful service in Kingstowne, Pastor Mix and his wife, Sara, believe the Lord is leading them toward a new season of ministry—specifically to plant a church in northern Virginia. Pastor Mix is grateful for every opportunity God has given him to be sponsored out of the GracePointe Baptist Church at Beachland, Louisville KY. Pastor and Sara Mix are excited to see all that the Lord will do as they carry out the great commission.

What We Believe

GracePointe is an Independent Baptist church that holds to the authority and sufficiency of Scripture. We believe the Bible is the inspired, preserved Word of God and use the King James Version for all preaching and teaching. Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone, and the mission of the church is to evangelize, disciple, and edify believers.

Our Story

GracePointe Baptist Church began with a small group of believers gathering to pray, study the Bible, and seek God’s direction for a new church plant in Northern Virginia. As God opened doors and brought families together, GracePointe was established with a vision to preach Christ, build community, and be a lighthouse in this growing region.

While we currently meet in flexible locations, God is leading us toward a future worship space where we can expand ministry, strengthen outreach, and continue growing together.
