One of the most common lies men believe is this:
“I don’t have to be a spiritual leader.”
Many men quietly assume that spiritual leadership is optional—that it belongs to pastors, “more spiritual” people, or even their wives. This lie convinces men that they can coast spiritually and still expect their family, marriage, and life to flourish.
It whispers: “As long as your family goes to church somewhere, everything will turn out fine.”
But that simply isn’t true.
Jesus makes the standard clear:
“If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” — Matthew 16:24 (KJV)
God designed men to lead—not with pride or control, but with humility, strength, and a heart anchored in Christ.
Spiritual leadership doesn’t start with others.
It starts with your personal walk with God.
Because the truth is simple:
You can’t lead your family somewhere you haven’t gone yourself.
Every home is being shaped spiritually.
If a man chooses not to lead, the space doesn’t remain empty.
Culture, busyness, distractions, and the world will gladly step in and fill the gap.
Leadership is not optional—it’s inevitable.
The only question is whether you will step into it.
Your spiritual influence is one of the most powerful forces in your family’s life.
God doesn’t call men without equipping them.
If He has called you to lead, He will give you everything you need to do it.
And as you grow in understanding who God is—His holiness, His greatness, His “otherness”—it changes everything about how you live and lead.
Who is the greatest leader you know?
How would you act in their presence?
What makes them different from everyone else?
Now consider this:
God is infinitely greater.
Yet He isn’t asking for perfection—only that you be present, willing, and dependent on Him.
You don’t have to overhaul your life overnight. Start small and stay consistent:
You don’t need to be perfect—just willing, present, and surrendered to Jesus.
True leadership doesn’t begin with authority.
It begins with following Christ.
So don’t wait. Don’t defer. Don’t assume someone else will step in.
Lead from the front.
