Hi friends,

Have you ever had a thought cross your mind and immediately wondered,
“Where did that even come from?”

Sometimes the thoughts feel so sudden… so strong… and so unlike who we want to be.

And if we’re not careful, we can start to believe that every thought we have is our own.

But that’s not always true.

There are two sources

Scripture shows us that there are ultimately two sources behind the thoughts, attitudes, and influences in our lives:

  • God—the source of truth, peace, and life
  • The enemy—the source of deception, confusion, and division

And the place they often battle the most?

Your mind.

The battle starts with a thought

The enemy doesn’t usually begin with actions.

He begins with suggestions.

A thought…
An idea…
A question…

We see this clearly if you take a moment to read Genesis 3:1–5. The enemy didn’t force Eve to do anything—he simply introduced a thought:

“Did God really say…?”

That one question planted doubt.

And once doubt took root… everything changed.

The enemy’s tactics are subtle

Scripture describes the enemy in several ways:

  • A deceiver
  • A liar
  • An accuser
  • Even someone who can appear as an “angel of light”

If you want to look deeper into that, read 2 Corinthians 11:14–15.

That means not everything that looks good… is from God.

Sometimes the most dangerous thoughts are the ones that feel the most convincing.

Why this matters

Because if we don’t recognize the source…

We’ll start agreeing with thoughts that were never meant to lead us.

Scripture reminds us to be alert. You can read that in 1 Peter 5:8—because the enemy is actively looking for ways to distract and devour.

And one of his main strategies is getting us to believe the wrong things.

But here’s the truth

Just because a thought enters your mind…

Doesn’t mean it belongs there.

And it definitely doesn’t mean it’s true.

Learning to discern

One of the most powerful things we can do is pause and ask:

  • Does this thought line up with God’s Word?
  • Does it bring peace—or confusion?
  • Is it drawing me closer to God—or away from Him?

Because God’s voice brings clarity, not chaos.

Reflection

Take a moment today and be honest with yourself:

  • What thoughts have been repeating in my mind lately?
  • Are they rooted in truth… or something else?

Encouragement

Friend, you are not at the mercy of every thought that crosses your mind.

God has given you His Word as a filter, a guide, and a source of truth.

And the more you fill your mind with His truth…

The easier it becomes to recognize what isn’t from Him.
