In Acts 28, Paul finally reaches Rome after enduring opposition, imprisonment, a violent storm, shipwreck, and even a snakebite. His journey looks very different from what he might have expected, yet every obstacle demonstrates the same truth: when God has a purpose, circumstances cannot stop His plan.
In this final message from The Unstoppable Church series, we see five truths about the unstoppable work of God:
- God preserves His purpose. A shipwreck and snakebite could not cancel what God had promised.
- God uses His servants. What appeared to be an unwanted detour on Malta became an opportunity for ministry.
- God keeps moving us forward. Progress may be slow and the journey difficult, but difficulty does not mean failure.
- God's message must be proclaimed. Paul made Christ—not his chains—the center of attention and faithfully proclaimed Jesus from the Scriptures.
- God's plan cannot be stopped. Paul was restricted, but the Gospel was not. His prison became a pulpit, his chains became a testimony, and his limitations became opportunities.
Acts 28 begins with a shipwreck, followed by a snake, sickness, a difficult journey, chains, and opposition.
But it ends with the Gospel being preached.
Luke's book closes, but the mission continues. The Gospel continued through the early church, through generations of believers, and eventually reached us. Now it is our responsibility to carry it forward.
Whatever circumstances you may be facing, Acts 28 reminds us:
Your circumstances do not determine God's faithfulness.
Your chains do not cancel God's calling.
Your obstacles do not overthrow God's purpose.
Your limitations do not limit God.
Rejection does not mean the Gospel has failed.
The final word of Acts is not that Paul was imprisoned. It is that he was still “preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.”
The Gospel cannot be stopped.
The question is not whether God will continue His work. The question is whether you will allow Him to use you in it.
